Koh Lanta: The isle of Sunset, Sandflies and Swedes

There are generally 2 ways of travelling from Phuket to Koh Lanta, an island south of Phuket.
Either by land (minibus journey of about 6-7 hours) or by sea (ferry: 2 hours to Koh Phi Phi, 1 hour stop, and then another 2 hours to Koh Lanta).

We decided against both and paid THB 3,600 p/person (CHF 120) for a 2 hour journey on a speedboat. Good decision? For us, maybe. At least we learned when and when NOT to travel by speedboat.

When NOT to travel by speedboat: (1) when travelling with children
(2) when you don’t want to get wet (because you WILL get wet)
(3) when you are old and you have a weak back (the grandma brought a back-guard with her)
(4) when you just had a boob job *ouch* (at least she kept us entertained throughout the journey as she grabbed onto her boobs for dear life, and then rearranging her boobs at the end of the journey…)

After 2 bumpy hours, we happily arrived on our honeymoon island..Koh Lanta. This place is, for some reason, very popular with the Swedes (ppl from Sweden). Even the Tuk-tuks are decorated in blue and yellow.

Koh Lanta is to be our last destination in Thailand before we head to Vietnam on the 23rd Jan.

We don’t really have much to say about this place except that there’s sandflies everywhere!

And….food is much more expensive here. It costs about THB 100 (CHF 3) for a plate of noodles, or about THB 150 (CHF 5) for a curry. Madness! ;-) Pizza is THB300 (a whole CHF 10!!)

Long Island (Phra Ae) beach

On the 19th, which is Pasci’s birthday, we treated ourselves to room service and booked a 3-hour spa treatment for ourselves. Be assured we are constantly talking about the snow in Europe right now…..heheheh…not really. It is even difficult to imagine how cold it is.

Ice cream became our regular afternoon snack!

Pad Thai by the pool...

Sunset view from the pool....snow...what snow? ;-)

Belated birthday dinner (we treated ourselves to Western food!)

Swissy trying his best to get brown...

Wanna play with my ball?

We rented a motorbike to get around...
