Another two exciting days have passed on our honeymoon (time is running fast...) and tomorrow is already our last day in this fast-paced city....so much happening here...so much food to try...so many things to look at....and so many 'annoying' locals to say "NO" to for things they wanna sell to you.... :)
Yesterday we booked the tour to the famous floating market which is about an hour's drive away north of Bangkok. We got picked up at 06:50 in the morning....these guys were even more on time than we are used to in Switzerland....they ringed us out of our room 25min too early (instead of the scheduled 07.15).
On the way there, as the government requests from the tour guides, we were brought to an elephant riding place (where we had to hang around for 1/2 hour) and a local orchid-farm...(very interesting! *yawn*) before finally arriving at the floating market. Unfortunatelly it IS a very touristy place but nevertheless interesting to see:
We got fetched up and down the river to look at things...every now and then some friendly salesperson catches (or rather grabs) your boat and tries to sell you something - mostly touristy nonsense or fruits and food. We tried some of the food there which was pretty good. e.g. Noodles soup, Coconut ice-cream (definitely a 'must-do' in Thailand), Springroll (yumm!)....As you can see, Pasci tried to eat all 3 at the same time. :)
After 30-40 min on the boat we were finished again and joined back with our group for the ride back.
On the way back - of course - we were again scheduled to stop at some Thai points of interest, i.e. some wood carving factory and a snake farm (where we were forced to wait around for another 1/2 hour). :-/
Luckily here, we had some 'live' entertainment, i.e. 2 indian MEN sitting (and other one lying) on a bench with one guy picking at the other one's eyebrow and hair, and kinda cuddling (think gay Bollywood movie). *nice*
We were back in town at around 3pm when we went for some shopping (i needed a book for our boat trip), ate some lunch (at 5pm) and were looking around the town a bit more...where we did a tour of the 4 & 5 Star hotels around Bangkok. Conclusion: OUR hotel is still the best! :)
Along the way, we saw some temples, more temples, shopping centre, and lots of food stalls...some more interesting than others. The best one had to be the one that had its cooker generated by the car battery.(see picture)

The traditional Thai dancing was interesting - think it was a blessing dance or for "good luck" (like everything is for good luck in this country).
Our supper (11pm) was a yummy Thai pork dish with rice and fried chicken...followed by a pancake (with banana filling) fried in oil, with added butter, and condensed milk & chocolate topping. The Thais add sugar (lots of it) and lots of condensed milk on top of that. We guess there is no such thing as calorie-counting in this country!!
As Sunday is a day of rest...we decided to give ourselves a full rest, i.e. sleeping until 4pm. hehe. Patrick (Stoeckli) then called us at 4.30pm to arrange to meet up,..so our 'breakfast' of the day was ..you can guess...noodles in spicy soup! :) (at yet another road stall)
I think our 'guests' were impressed with the local culinary here, to say the least.
After a satisfying (light) dinner, we wanted to go to the 'Sky Bar' at the Lebua State Tower but unfortunately the MEN were not dressed appropriately (long trousers and NO sandals, boys!). So that is postponed until tomorrow. This bar is famous for its beautiful night view of Bangkok.
After a long chat at a local Thai 'starbucks', we went our separate ways with the local bus. It costed THB 6.50 p/person (CHF 20 rappen)..and it was the best ride ever! (see picture)
Since we live around the corner from Patpong, we are always obligated to walk through Patpong, i.e. the Red Light District of Bangkok...where you constantly get harrased about some p**sy shows. This time, we gave in and followed some local guy who told us that each drink costs only THB 100 and we dont have to pay any "cover charge" and its free to watch. We can watch for 10 minutes and then decide later.
That was as usual, a stupid move, on our side in believing that it could be such a good deal. After probably approximately 10 minutes and getting some ping-Pong ball shot in our face (from the pu**y), a big, fat Thai woman who tried to put on her scary face and scary voice (think she did not have to try very hard) and told us our bill is THB 2,600. WTF!!
Anyway, we were pretty disappointed, gave her THB 2000 (CHF 60) and left. That was the MOST expensive beer we've ever had for sure! Oh well, at least we can now say that we have seen the infamous "ping pong" show...ok.so there were other 'performances' e.g. opening bottle (with her pu**y), shooting darts at balloons, pulling out razor blades and pins from the pu**y.....lesson learned? Dont bother! Cheap porn is more worth it.
